New Wind Turbine Technology Spins Into View

London Eye architects, Marks and Barfield have come up with a new concept for generating renewable energy within London called the Beacon. It is effectively a cluster of wind turbines organised in the form of a helix, five in total, each with a diameter of three metres overcoming the problem of how to mount more than one turbine on a single neck. The idea is that the 40 metre tall structure can help bring wind energy to the capital where right now it is not particularly practical. Traditional wind turbines do make noise and they are also tall, that coupled with the fact that London isn't hugely windy makes them much less of a good deal if you want to generate electricity from wind power compared to building them out to sea or on a hill.Overcoming the noise issue, they incorporate a new technology called Quietrevolution that will make them much quieter and thus help negate concerns about them ruining the peace in public spaces. The plan Marks and Barfield have is to build a number of these across London and presumably other British cities too, particularly in locations like the central reservations of roads. The wind turbines also have an added ingredient in utilising LEDs within the blades allow them to put on displays. LEDs are an increasingly popular form of illumination thanks to their compact size, the ability to change colour and also the small amounts of energy used to light them.We could soon be seeing the Southbank in London, not only having wind turbines following along the river, but also glowing all shades of the rainbow at night.
